Photo Mechanic™ Version 4.4.3.3 History

Below is a list of changes made to Photo Mechanic for Version 4.4.3.3, released September 23, 2006.

This version is available as a free update for registrations good through November 2005.

  • Added a checkbox to turn on chrominance sub-sampling when saving JPEGs to reduce the file sizes at the expense of reduced color accuracy.
  • Improved handling of embedded XMP and XMP sidecar files for TIFF-based RAW formats. For example, lets say the preference is to read embedded XMP first (before an XMP sidecar file) and to embed XMP. If a RAW file doesn’t contain embedded XMP, yet an XMP sidecar exists, then the XMP sidecar will be read as the source for the embedded XMP. Previously the newly embedded XMP would only contain IPTC4XMP and no other XMP data from the sidecar (e.g. ACR settings).
  • Fixed a bug when masking XMP data in a JPEG that has no XMP data to mask that could cause image corruption in some cases.
  • Fixed a problem displaying Nikon NEF files that are based-upon JPEG or TIFF sources (i.e. non-RAW NEFs). Also fixed problem with ICC profiles not being embedded into extracted JPEG previews from Capture NX NEF files.
  • Fixed a problem with CRW and movie files not parsing the capture time from THM files (and therefore defaulting the capture time to the file’s creation time).
  • Fixed a problem with Ingest when the sequence {seqn} variable is used in the IPTC Stationery Pad and a variable (e.g. {datesort}) is used for folder naming.
  • Fixed a problem with the IPTC Stationery Pad always defaulting to today’s date when it was opened. However, if the date was changed in the IPTC Stationery Pad (from today’s date), then the desired IPTC date would indeed be used.
  • Fixed a problem with watermarking not being applied in the Send Photos via Email command.
  • Fixed a problem with negative numbers being shown for the {actuations} variable for certain Canon camera models.
  • Fixed a problem with not being able to save a photo from the Preview window when renaming without using a variable in the renaming string.
  • Fixed a problem with the Exif/TIFF rotation tag not being cleared when saving a JPEG from a non-JPEG source (causing other applications to inadvertently apply the Exif/TIFF rotation).
  • Added {resolution} or {res} variable for image resolution in pixels per inch or cm.
  • Added {printsize} or {psiz} variable for image print size in inches or cms.
  • Added {corrupt} or {crpt} variable to indicate whether a JPEG has invalid bytes mixed in with the JPEG markers. If non-zero, this variable shows the number of extra bytes.
  • (Win) Fixed a problem with crash on exit and a problem with Photo Mechanic not fully terminating.
  • (Win) Fixed a bug where the Navigator tree would collapse when doing a drag and drop, and a problem with the Navigator and Favorites deleting the item under the mouse cursor instead of the selected item.
  • (Win) Improved startup time of Photo Mechanic when there are mapped network drives connected (especially if they are not really available).
  • (Win) Improved certain user interface issues with minimizing the Preview window and the mouse focus affecting menus and Navigator folder naming.
