Photo Mechanicâ„¢ Version 4.3.3 History

Below is a list of changes made to Photo Mechanic for Version 4.3.3, released February 16, 2005.

This version is available as a free update for registrations good through December 2004.

  • Added support for sending photos to Photoshop Droplets. First select the location of the folder containing your Droplets from the Preferences dialog in the Launching section. Then you can choose "Send Photos to Droplet" from the Image menu to process the selected photos in Photoshop using the chosen Droplet.
  • Added an Image menu command called "Apply Stationery to Selected Photos". This will apply the IPTC Stationery Pad to all the selected photos without asking for an OK.
  • (Mac) Made several changes to the "Send Photos via email" command. You can now send each photo as a separate email, and you can choose to not have your email client review the email(s) so the photos get queued right away (although depending on your email client you may still need to send the queued messages). You can now include variables in the Subject and Body sections (if not sending separate emails, only the first selected photo will be used for evaluating any variables). Added popup menu lists to show the contacts in your Mac OS X Address Book, and groups will be expanded before the email is sent (include the Address Book group name in between '<' and '>' characters). Also, the filenames of the sent photos will maintain the same base name as the original photos rather than have a temporary filenames.
  • Improved load speed for TIFF files and reduced the memory overhead when viewing large files at reduced resolutions (i.e. thumbnails and non-zoomed previews).
  • The Navigator and Favorites panes now refresh automatically for ingest, copy, and save-as operations. You can also now refresh the Navigator and Favorites panes manually by first clicking into the pane (to give the pane "focus"), and then pressing the F5 key (or by choosing the Refresh command from the View menu).
  • (Mac) The Navigator and Favorites panes now show the Finder color labels for folders.
  • (Mac) When renaming folders in the Navigator or Favorites panes, clicking outside the edit text field will commit the rename instead of canceling the rename.
  • (Mac) Fixed a problem with not viewing combined RAW + JPEG (despite preference being set) when opening a contact sheet from a empty window (e.g. after startup with "open empty contact sheet").
  • (Mac) On OS 10.2 (Jaguar), fixed a problem with the "hand" cursor not working while in zoom mode in the preview dialog.
  • Fixed a problem with an existing crop being deleted when clicking outside the crop rectangle while in zoom mode and with the hand cursor active.
  • Fixed a problem with separate ingest processes sharing the common IPTC Stationery Pad. Now each ingest process takes a "snapshot" of the IPTC Stationery Pad at the start of the ingest and uses that snapshot for all copied files. Therefore, while one ingest process in copying, you can change the IPTC Stationery Pad and begin a subsequent ingest process without affecting the IPTC fields that are being applied for the prior ingest process.
  • Applying the IPTC Stationery Pad via the contextual menu is now done on a separate thread with a progress dialog.
  • (Win) The IPTC dialogs can now be OK'd by the Control-Return keyboard shortcut (similar to the Command-Return shortcut on the Mac).
  • Photo Mechanic now checks to make sure that at least one IPTC Stationery Pad field is checked to apply before it will run commands like Copy, Save As, FTP As, and Ingest. The same check is also made in the IPTC Stationery Pad dialog when clicking on the "Apply Stationery to Selected" button.
  • Fixed a problem reading Canon CR2 RAW files that had been captioned by some other software.
  • Fixed a problem reading DNG files created using Adobe DNG Converter 2.4. Photo Mechanic can now read these files and view the 1024 pixel preview.
  • (Mac) Fixed a problem with the Preferences and Print dialogs not opening on systems that have ICC profiles with internal names that are Unicode characters (the ICC profile menus would not get built causing the dialogs to fail opening).
  • (Win) Fixed a problem with the use of the copyright symbol in the Edit IPTC List dialog. The Delete button would delete the wrong item and strange characters would appear next to the copyright symbol.
  • Fixed a problem with IPTC Captions longer than 2047 characters. The limit is now 4095 characters in Photo Mechanic. The IPTC specification is 2000 characters max.
  • Changed the word "Catalog" in the HTML exporter to "Index" to remove the incompatibility with English spelling in the UK and Canada
